Our project aims to raise awareness for our environment and promote initiatives to protect and nurture it. In our project, we plan to set up planters around the school, filled with a variety of plants, to make our community greener. Through this project we aim to also raise awareness for gardening intiatives and mental health awareness, as plants are linked to improving student performance in and out of the classroom. We hope that by setting planters all around school we can encourage students' to care for them, and raise awareness for the environment.
Our team is a mix of newer and older members. Each of our members brings unique insight and interests to our projects, from our social media managers to our project coordinators. Together as a team, we will work together to fulfill our project goals.
Project
Purpose
We selected this project because we wanted to raise awareness for global environmental issues of climate change, by fostering gardening initiatives and workshops to get our community involved. This year Atmospheric CO2 reached a high of 422.7 ppm in 2024, an increase from 3.75 ppm from 2023, highlighting the importance of the effects of CO2. Our environmental initiatives also aim to foster more gardening and planting workshops at Reseda, which has been riddled with construction since 2022. Through the creation of planters and distributing them to our administrators and teachers, we hope to involve our school community and show them small ways they can help in nurturing our environment.
Our Plan
This year we plan to set up planters around our school filled with an assortment of plants, such as succulents and other plants that are suitable to California's climate, to raise awareness for small acts of environmental initiatives that can make a big difference in making our community greener and reduce emissions. We plan to get our materials by sending our project mission to local stores and requesting donations to carry out our plan.
We are the RCHS StudentsBuildLA team that strive to address broader issues in our community, from environmental awareness to mental health, in a fun, and engaging way to connect with our community, to address these issues as a school organization. Through our project, we want to come together as a team to bring environmental awareness to our school community, through planting and our school garden restoration.

September - December
Creating Planters
We went to a bunch of different local stores and bought plants and boxes to create our planters.
January - February
Designing Shirts
Our teammate, Maliah, created a design for our shirts based on our mission and project and we hosted local sessions where everyone got to try and stamp the logo on some shirts.
March 26
Giving out the Planters
We gave out the planters we created to our school librarian, main office, and attendance office to spread awareness for our environment through all corners of the school.
