Girls in STEAM

Our Purpose

Reseda Girls Build LA is a student organization affiliated with a larger program that aims to empower women to identify and address local issues within their communities. Each year, our team develops a project with a primary focus, which this year is STEM encouragement. We aim to inspire young students, especially girls, to pursue careers in STEM by introducing them to various STEM careers and interests.

Our Plan

We would like to host monthly workshops with the middle school, each lasting around 45 minutes. Our plan is to focus on one letter of the STEAM acronym each month to allow students to explore their passions and discover new interests.

Project Need

Stem is a field that throughout history has been predominantly male-dominated. Only 34% of women occupy jobs in the science and engineering sector. While the percent of women in stem careers has been on the rise in recent years, the fact remains that so women are underrepresented in stem. Through our project we want to introduce more females to the countless opportunities stem offers. We have planned many labs throughout the year to showcase the wide range of careers and topics available in stem. Everyone should have the opportunity to pursue and explore different stem careers and pursue their passions. We aim to inspire our local middle school students to not only explore various stem topics but to pursue their passions.
